Introductory Script with Close (based on tried and true, non-manipulative, door-to-door selling methods) (Note: change this script anyway necessary to make it natural sounding for you).

 

  • Hi.

  • My name is _________.

  • I live in the neighborhood and am with the Green political party.

  • We are for clean government.

  • We take no money from corporations.

  • Our candidates will represent those who vote for them, not special interests.

  • We are engaged in a massive effort to register voters to the Green party so we can elect a large number of candidates to office in November 2016.

  • It takes only 5 minutes to register.

  • I'm wondering if, at this time, you'd be willing to register for the Green Party to help bring about clean government? (silence until prospect answers)

(Note: memorize above so you can say it in a way that flows naturally.) ( Script length before the close:  34 seconds)

 

 

 Analysis of  Script Components (based on tried and true, non-manipulative, door-to-door selling methods)

Introduction:  It's necessary to deliver the best information quickly because the time to keep the attention of a prospective Green at his or her door is very limited.  So, a well crafted, well memorized and rehearsed script is needed.  The following is an analysis of the reasoning behind the differnet elements of the above script. 

  1.  Establish Rapport:

    1. "Hi. My name is _________. I live in the neighborhood and am with the Green political party." (Establishes trust and puts the prospective Green at ease by informing him or her about who the canvasser is and that the canvasser is a neighbor.  It also begins to solves the mystery of what the canvasser is doing on the prospective Green's doorstep.Note: It's necessary to say Green political party because a lot of people don't know that the Green Party exists or what a Green Party is.)

    2. Show How the Green Party Will Empower the Voter- Part One

      1. "We are for clean government. We take no money from corporations.Our candidates will represent those who vote for them, not special interests." (Tells how the Green Party, by establishing clean government, will enable real democracy; real power to the people (the voters).

    3.  Show How the Green Party Will Empower the Voter- Part Two

      1. "We are engaged in a massive effort to register voters to the Green party so we can elect a large number of candidates to office in November 2016." (tells how we will establish clean government and when we will have it done.  This helps inspire confidence that we are on the job and will deliver the goods)

    4.  Ease the Mind of the Prospective Green

      1. "It takes only 5 minutes to register." ( Assures the prospective Green that a very small investment of time is all that is needed.)

    5. Summarize the Value and Ask for the  Registration

      1. "I'm wondering if, at this time, you'd be willing to register for the Green Party to help bring about clean government?" (this reminds the prospective Green about what the canvasser is offering and asks him or her to now join the effort to bring about clean government and all that it entails)

    6. Wait Silently for the Prospective Green to make up his or her mind.

      1. (silence until prospect answers)  (This is an important part of registering the prospective Green.  After asking for the registration, the prospective Green may or may not need time to weigh what he or she has heard.  This might take a little while.  If you say something before the prospective Green answers, it may denote a lack of confidence in the canvasser that might be difficult to overcome.)

    7. Memorize the Script and  Role-play it with a Partner or in Front of a Mirror Until it Flows Naturally

      1. ​Because of the limited time available to interest the prospective Green, a script is necessary.  It's important, also, for the sincerity of the canvasser to come through.  Memorization and practice with a role-playing partner or in front of a mirror, will help the canvasser to become proficient in talking to prospective Greens.  Also,this script can be customized any way necessary to make it natural for the canvasser; so canvasser can say it the way he or she speaks.
